•May 21, 2008 • Leave a CommentIf there was a fire at my house and I only had a certain amount of time to grab a few things, these things would be…..
My cat
Help my dogs
Make sure my family got out too
My purse
At least two pairs of shoes
Cell phone and charger
The frog stuffed animal my boyfriend won for me at the fair.
The heart box with keep sakes in it.
My camera and docking station
Try to grab some clothes at least a pair of jeans and a shirt and a jacket.
I chose these items because they are mean very much to me. When asked this question I tried to think of things that I couldn’t live without and the things that I look at or use everyday. My pets I chose because they are and have always been a huge part of my life and I wouldn’t dream of leaving them or any member of my family in a building caught on fire. I chose things that I have received from my boyfriend because he is also a big part of my life and without him I wouldn’t be the same person. Other things such as my purse and shoes and clothes were because these are things that I need. My camera and cell phone are things that I enjoy and use everyday.
Pepon Osorio’s “Badge of Honor”
•May 21, 2008 • Leave a CommentPepon Osorio is one of the best known artist of large artwork. He was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico in 1955. He became educated and became a social worker in the Bronx of New York. This is were he got most of his influence for his art work. Osorio has said “My principal commitment as an artist is to return art to the community.” We see this in many work that he has done and also with the topics that he chooses. He now lives in Philadelphia and uses the culture and traditions as sources for his work. The piece I am choosing is “Badge of Honor” which is at the Newark Museum, Newart, NJ. It has been there since 1995. I chose to report on “Badge of Honor” because I can relate to a different sort of family. I also believe that talking heals people and helps people get through the hardships of life. This piece also shows that differences between ages. Pepon Osorio does works that have one meaning but when looked at deeper they have a soul and life to them.
The first thing you notice with the piece “Badge of Honor” is that the two rooms are so different. One way they are different would be that the father’s room has bars and very simple and few objects in it. Whereas the son’s room has a lot of color and activity. The father’s room is supposed to represent that fact that he is in jail, to do this there are bars to keep you from that room. This room also has very strict lighting and very neat like everything is controlled as it would be in a jail.
The second thing you notice would be that they both share the same wall. This expresses that they are sharing something and are close but still are not able to be face to face. Both rooms show that there are family photos present. There are a lot more photos in the son’s room though. There is a mirrored floor that doubles everything in the room. Each room expresses a dream like world that we all picture or can picture but is almost never expressed. The dream like atmosphere is also to show that families in crisis don’t usually show that they are having troubles and they try to hide it.
This piece has a deeper meaning. You are able to hear the conversation that the artist prompted between the father and the son and how they reacted. This helps to draw you into the artwork and to make it have more meaning. You are able to get close to the rooms but not go into them. You get to hear that the problems of the family and see how they will get through them from the very people that went through it. By the two rooms sharing a common wall this shows that they have a common ground. This is an important thing to portray because without communication most problems can not be solved. I really liked the piece of work. I felt it was a great way of expressing a relationship between two people.
How to create emotion?
•May 13, 2008 • Leave a CommentWhen using a camera you can select different settings to help create a mood for the picture. There are a few ways of doing this. One way would be by using the macro setting which enhances the image and makes it appear bigger then it is. This would help to create a scary or intimidating affect. Second, you can change the way the light is hitting the object. This would change how the object is or will be portrayed. Third, you can change the color fliter that the camera will use such as black and white or sephia. This will create a different look or view point on the picture.

•March 4, 2008 • Leave a CommentThree design principals from Edward Tafte that I will remember when designing my charts and powerpoint are simple! The first of is “chart junk” this means all the information or pictures that are not realated to the information and whatever things may be not what helps answer or give information. It also may have no information that is useful to the presentation. He believes that color should be used to seperate information. He has developed sparklines which are a simple way of presenting trends and information. He has written many books. I will remember these few things and I know that it will help me when I am doing my next chart or powerpoint!

Waking Life
•February 26, 2008 • Leave a Comment1. How do the animators create a sense of movement in the film?
The animators create a sense of movement in the film because they use the light on the animations. By doing this they can create a look with different shades to make the image look like it is moving. They do these shades with the faces and background.
2. Why do you think they decided to use animation instead of filming actual people? What message are they trying to send? Are they trying to create a specific mood by not using real people?
I think that they chose to use animation rather then real people because it adds a different mood and feeling to the movie. It helps to make you think and look at more then just the actors in but rather look at the little things and the details. You will be drawn into the story more. It also helps you to value the work being done. The message they are trying to send is that too many times we concentrate on the actors playing in the film that we don’t pay attention to the story being told. I think they want us to concentrate on the story. The mood they are trying to create right now would be a suspenseful mood by the use of animations.
